Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) intends to resign, according to the AP.

Wu, who joined the House in 1999, stands accused of having an unwanted sexual encounter with a member of his staff’s 18-year-old daughter.

The Oregon Democrat initially declined to tender his resignation, but said that he would not be seeking re-election in 2012.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a formal request for an ethics inquiry into Wu’s behavior.

This has not been the Congressman’s first brush with controversy. Last October Wu made headlines for strange emails, including pictures of himself in a tiger costume, to his staff.
