As the unrest in Libya continues, President Barack Obama will meet with UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon Monday afternoon to coordinate the international response to the situation.

According to the White House, the two leaders will discuss the  “humanitarian, diplomatic, legal and other actions needed to put a stop to violence against civilians and to ensure that UN agencies and UN members mobilize to provide humanitarian assistance to Libya’s people.”

In response to Muammar Gaddafi’s ruthless campaign of state sponsored violence against political opponents, the UN Security Council agreed to a strong set of sanctions over the weekend, including freezing Gaddafi’s and his family’s assets as well as placing travel restrictions on them.

The UN’s Human Rights Council may also expel Libya from its position on the panel.
