According to a new poll conducted by The Hill newspaper, Democrats would be more at fault than Republicans should a government shutdown occur.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters found that 29% would blame Democrats for a shutdown, compared to 23% who say Republicans would be at fault. Among Independents, 34% would blame Democrats, while only 19% would blame the GOP.

The poll has a three-point margin of error.

The two parties moved closer Friday to a short-term deal that would fund the government until March 18. Lawmakers in the House and Senate will try to agree on the temporary measure this week, before the current continuing resolution expires on March 4. Failure to pass another “CR” by that deadline would result in a shutdown.
