House Speaker John Boehner put it simply, “We’re broke!”

In defending the extensive list of spending cuts the House Appropriations Committee unveiled Wednesday, Boehner said Thursday that the key to reviving the jobs market and stabilizing the economy is to tighten spending. The House will take up a continuing resolution that will reflect these cuts, he said.

“Without fiscal stability we cannot have economic stability,” the Speaker said. “You’re going to see more spending cuts come out of this congress than in any congress in the history of this country.”

After being grilled by reporters about the programs that will face massive budget cuts, Boehner lashed back saying “everything is on the table. We’re broke! Let’s be honest with ourselves, it’s time for Washington to get serious and that exactly what the American people expect form us.”
