OPINION: Depending On Government

President Obama’s latest announcements continue a trend of making people more dependent on government, which in turn depends on a shrinking percentage of taxpayers to pay most of the bills.

Nobody can say how many homeowners and how many students will get financial freebies from his loan forgiveness programs, because Obama still has not put the details into writing. First he claims America cannot wait, then he keeps us waiting to learn those all-important details.

But already almost half of the country—48.5 % according to the Census Bureau—are in a household receiving government benefits. That’s up 10% in the last two years. Obamacare, plus his mortgage and student loan giveaways, will take that dependency even higher.

As one wag described it, soon we’ll have more people riding in the wagon than we do pulling the wagon.
