Reuters reported this morning that Libyan despot Moammar Gaddafi was killed after being captured in an area near Sirte, Libya.

According to the global news agency, a top official in the National Transitional Council — Libya’s interim government — reported Gaddafi’s death.

“A senior NTC military official says Gaddafi has died of wounds suffered during reported capture.”

Other reports, including one from Reuters, say that Gaddafi has been captured and wounded during a NATO attack on his envoy, and that he may still be alive.

The White House has yet to confirm any of the reports. White House press secretary Jay Carney will brief reporters this afternoon and President Obama is expected to make a statement later today.
