The U.S. Constitution will be read on the House floor Thursday, beginning the first full day of GOP control.

According to Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the reading is intended to set the tone for the 112th Congress.

“One of the resounding themes I have heard from my constituents is that Congress should adhere to the Constitution and the finite list of powers it granted to the federal government,” Goodlatte said in a statement.

Keeping in line with the focus on the founding principles, new House rules passed yesterday require lawmakers to cite how each piece of legislation is Constitutional.

The Constitution will be read as it is currently amended.
