While President Barack Obama has not officially announced that he will run for a second-term, the White House confirmed Thursday that it is a near certainty.

“It’s far likely,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Thursday.

However, Gibbs said, “I think the official rendering of that decision will come … with the filing of the paper work with the [Federal Elections Commission].”

Gibbs remarks comes as the White House closes its political wing, a move that frees up staff for a 2012 race.
