The House passed legislation Wednesday to provide compensation for rescue workers who fell ill after responding to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The $7.4 billion bill passed by 268 to 160.

A previous attempt to pass the legislation in July failed following the implementation of a procedural move aimed at limiting the amount of amendments that could be added to bill. As a result, support from two-thirds of the House was required, a threshold Democrats failed to meet.
