Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano described chatter among Republicans over repealing birthright citizenship as “just wrong.”
“I am surprised … discussion is being had about amending the United States Constitution before we even get to the table on amending the statutes that actually carry out immigration policy,” Napolitano said during a briefing Friday at the White House.
Added the Secretary, “Talk of amending the Constitution is just wrong.”
In recent weeks a number of Republicans have suggested holding hearings to determine whether the children of illegal aliens should automatically be considered U.S. citizens, a notion generally agreed to be included in the 14th amendment.
