At a major international conference to review where countries are in their global commitments to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad slammed the United States for what he described as hypocritical inaction on the nuclear issue.

The controversial President of the Islamic Republic addressed a packed room of global dignitaries and press at the United Nations General Assembly hall in New York early this afternoon. France, Britain, the Netherlands and the United States walked out during his speech as Amhadinejad pointed the finger at the United States and "its zionist allies" for continuing their nuclear programs while trying to mitigate other countries "peaceful" nuclear energy objectives.

"The Zionist region has stockpiled hundreds of nuclear warheads...and enjoys the unconditional support of the United States and its allies..." he stated.

Ahmadinejad led the speech with Islamic prayers and praised Jesus Christ. He added that states including the US and Israel, have moved away from the "divine teachings" and are causing "instability" in nuclear power. He pointed to the stockpiling of weapons and
the "unfair policies by select groups of expansionist states" supported by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency).

Earlier, the Secretary-General of the IAEA pointed to Iran, Syria, and North Korea for not keeping up with promised commitments to the agency to promote a transparent and accountable nuclear program.

The main concern for the IAEA and anti-nuclear power supporters is Article 6 of the NPT which underscores countries' responsibility to remove and mitigate nuclear programs--outside of safely using nuclear energy for environmental purposes. The IAEA applauded the United States for signing the START deal with Russia and the global promise President Obama made to end all new productions of nuclear weapons.

Ahmadinejad criticized these "phony matters" and underscored that the first nuclear bomb was produced by the USA and was used to provide the "upper hand and gave justification to others to produce weapons including the Zionist regimes."

He also underlined how the United States enjoys special privileges as a permanent member of the Security Council and exploits these privileges when it comes to his own country (referring indirectly to a newly imposed resolution on tougher sanctions on Iran).
