Data compiled by a prominent government watchdog group reveals that several members of the House Tea Party Caucus attached their names to millions of dollars worth of earmarks during fiscal year 2010.
The National Journal reported on Thursday that the figures provided by Citizens Against Government Waste indicate that Republican lawmakers requested a total of over $1 billion in special projects. Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg led the charge, requesting slightly more than $100 million worth of projects for his home district.
Notably, Tea Party favorites Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who formed the caucus back in July, and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) did not request a single earmark last year. In total, 13 members of the caucus did not submit requests.
