Chamber of Commerce released a statement Friday calling for the prevention of “tax increases on small business owners” in the wake of new unemployment data.

It’s imperative that we embrace pro-growth policies in the near-term,” Dr. Martin Regalia, The Chamber’s Chief Economist, said.

The call coincides with a mounting debate on the future of the Bush era tax cuts. On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs indicated that the President could be sympathetic a temporary extension for the full slate of cuts.

Friday’s unemployment data shows that 159,000 jobs were created last month, but that unemployment hovered around 9.6 percent.
