A spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is blasting Republicans for pushing the repeal of key provisions in the health care reform law in the days following the party’s electoral victory.

It speaks volumes that the first thing on Republicans’ ‘to do’ list is to give power back to big health insurance companies,” Jim Manley said in a statement released Thursday. “If Republicans think the American people want to go back to giving insurance companies free rein to impose their abusive practices on middle-class families and seniors, then they are truly out of touch with the middle class.”

Republicans gained a majority in the House on Tuesday, garnering 60 seats. The Senate remains in Democratic control despite the party’s loss of 6 seats.

On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that Congressional Republicans will make multiple attempts to repeal the law in its entirety, but acknowledged that they will face resistance from the White House.
