Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will serve as Minority Leader in the next Congress after securing the support from the bulk of her party.

Pelosi, who was elected as the first female Speaker, received 150 votes.

There was initial speculation that Pelosi had become too much of a divisive figure after six years as Speaker, but Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), who made a bid for the spot as the more moderate choice, received only 43 votes.

Current Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) was unanimously Wednesday elected by the Republican Conference as Speaker.
