Politico is reporting that former President Bill Clinton attempted to convince Florida’s Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek to drop out the state’s race.
The deal would have then cleared the race for Governor Charlie Crist, an independent candidate who lost the Republican nomination to tea party favorite Marco Rubio.
Crist has taken a moderate stance in the campaign and many believe the former Governor would choose to caucus with the Democrats if elected.
Meek denied that the negotiations gained much traction during a press conference this week.
A according to 538, Meek is capturing 23 percent of the electorate, trailng behind Crist with 32.2 percent and Rubio who sits at 43.5 percent.
