The House Energy and Commerce Committee saw a rare, albeit small, moment of bipartisanship Wednesday when 51 Democrats voted to send an amendment proposed by the committee’s Ranking Member Joe Barton (R-Texas) and fellow Texas congressmen Rep. Gene Green (D) and Michael Burgess (R) to the House Rules Committee.

The amendment aims to provide transparency in hospital pricing and would inform patients the amount they would be expected to co-pay before being charged.

Of the committee’s present Democrats, none voted ‘no.’

While the committee has already held a markup for the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, they met again Wednesday to approve additional amendments that were not initially included in the legislation. The separate amendments will be sent to the House Rules Committee.
